A succession of black-and-white photographs, Disappearance of a Tribe, re-examines the Soviet era, in a subjective, even emotional vision which the artist holds of his country, subtly associating the history of Lithuania with his own memories. Through smiling and serene portraits, intimate accounts from youth teeming with energy and hope for the communist future, Deimantas Narkevicius throws into question the documentary image considered as a historical truth by revealing the collective utopia which contributed to forging and cementing the illusion of an era.
