Pipilotti Rist’s Cinquante Fifty is a video installation with dreamlike images and disorienting effects. Originally developed for a parking lot, the work creates an immersive experience with identical videos projected into the corners of the room, enveloping the viewer. The soothing sound of a woman singing and the fleeting camera work create a liberating feeling by challenging the viewer’s perspective. Rist evokes the desire for and possibility of escaping physical, emotional, and mental confinement.
