The Sun of the Sleepless

Arash Nassiri’s video Tehran-geles and Zhou Tao's video Blue and Red, are presented in the international group exhibition The Sun of the Sleepless. Both works are part of the Han Nefkens Collection.

This exhibition brings together ten international artists on the territory of one of the first major independent exhibition spaces of Armenia - The Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA).

The artistic activity in Armenia thus far has been provoked by political and cultural realities, often as an immediate reaction and a way to mediate between harsh reality and an illusory life. In this exhibition, we will attempt to consider the ACCEA through the prism of Claire Bishop’s term “dialectical modernity”– a concept that indicates not so much the style or period of the creation of the works of art, but the approach to them by curators and institutions. Telling stories and presenting the works of individual artists, we do not subordinate the art of linear history as such, but use the world of visual images to emphasise the need to choose the right historical position in the turbulent time of the new contemporaneity and non-linear time.

Being the second exhibition of curator Sona Stepanyan, The Sun of the Sleepless continues in time and geography. The Power Nap exhibition happened a few months before the Armenian Velvet Revolution of love and solidarity in May 2018.
