FLOW SERIES 08: JUNGJU AN (SOUTH KOREA) IN CONVERSATION WITH SOOK-KYUNG LEE
Jungju An (b.1979) is a visual artist based in Seoul, Korea. He received his B.F.A. from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea and M.F.A. in Communication & Art from Yonsei University.
Since his early works, he segments his recorded sounds and images into their individual units, then he either expands or contracts them to reconnect them in a rhythmic manner, or emphasizes repetition to create musical, dynamic flow of images. Usually his works are embodied through video and sounds, sometimes photography and installations. An has been the subject of many solo exhibitions including Doosan Gallery New York and Seoul (2016/2015), Project Space SARUBIA (2012, Seoul, Korea), and Kunstlerhaus Bethanien (2009, Berlin, Germany). He also has had group exhibitions at National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2015, Seoul, Korea), Atelier Hermès (2015, Seoul, Korea), National Museum of Contemporary Art (2013, Bucharest, Romania), among many others.
